The southern outskirts of Palermo and
the Golden Basin

In the Ciaculli district, on the slopes of Mount Grifone, a still present testimony of the fertile plain called Conca d'Oro, we will visit lands confiscated from organized crime, watered by ancient irrigation systems used by Sicilian farmers of the past, whose care today has been entrusted to a Cooperative. In the period from March to May, it will be possible to harvest late mandarins (Slow Food presidium) and medlars.
The Brancaccio district hosts an ancient testimony of the Arabs in Palermo with the Castello della Favara or Maredolce, residence of the Emir,
We will continue with a visit to what is believed to have been the first Norman building in the city, the Church of San Giovanni dei Lebbrosi from 1071 in the Settecannoli district.
We will admire Palermo from a privileged position, that is, under the Cypress of San Benedetto il Moro, co-patron of the city, above the Sanctuary that bears his name in the Santa Maria di Gesù neighborhood. We will meet the friars and the community that animates the Convent and visit the monumental cemetery that houses the mausoleum of the Florio family and, among other illustrious guests, also the judge Paolo Borsellino.
The Sperone neighborhood will be the backdrop for a walk through urban art with a stop in front of the mural of Santa Rosalia by artist Igor Scalisi Palminteri, the first Italian work and the sixth globally in the Street Art Cities ranking.
