The Valley of Torto
traditions and flavours of the Sicilian hinterland

An immersive journey into the Sicilian hinterland where the passage of time slows down and the simplicity of life is appreciated. We will spend the day in the territory of Alia, an ancient village in the Valle del Torto, in the lower Madonie. Accompanied by locals, we will visit a family that has been working with cow, sheep or goat milk for generations and we will witness its transformation into various types of cheese. We will meet people who preserve and pass on knowledge of ancient arts such as wool spinning, from shearing to the creation of unique artifacts. We will continue our walk through history by visiting the Gurfa caves, a place of rare rock architecture presumably dating back to the Bronze Age. According to legend, the tomb of King Minos was located in these places. We will conclude our knowledge of this territory by walking through the alleys of the town, among its ancient churches and the hospitality of the community.
